Indonesia Plans to Shelter 1,000 Injured Palestinians and Gaza Orphans

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto announced Wednesday that Indonesia will provide temporary shelter for Palestinians wounded and orphaned in the ongoing Israel-Hamas war in Gaza. The country is prepared to take immediate action to help those affected by the conflict.
"We are ready to evacuate those who are injured or traumatized, and orphans, if they want to be evacuated to Indonesia, and we are ready to send planes to transport them," Subianto stated. He has directed his foreign affairs minister to begin discussing evacuation plans with Palestinian authorities right away.
Indonesia plans to receive an initial group of approximately 1,000 victims. These evacuees will remain in Indonesia until they have completely recovered from their injuries and until Gaza becomes safe enough for them to return home.
Subianto made it clear that this humanitarian effort is not intended for permanent resettlement. The focus is on providing medical care and safe haven until conditions improve in Gaza.
The announcement came as Subianto prepared to depart for Abu Dhabi, the first stop in his weeklong Middle East tour. His itinerary includes visits to:
- Turkey
- Egypt
- Qatar
- Jordan
During these visits, Subianto will discuss the planned evacuations with regional leaders. He noted that some of these countries have also accepted Palestinians for humanitarian purposes.
Subianto mentioned that other nations have asked Indonesia to take a more active role in finding a solution to the Gaza conflict. As the world's most populous Muslim-majority nation, Indonesia has consistently shown strong support for the Palestinian cause.
This humanitarian initiative aligns with Indonesia's growing international profile, which recently expanded with the country's January 2025 admission to BRICS. As the fourth most populous nation globally with 281 million people, Indonesia now holds membership in an economic bloc representing nearly half the world's population.
